Innovation as Muscle, Not a Department
Real innovation capability is built through structured practice, not inspiration sessions.
اقرأ بالعربيةMany organizations treat innovation as a department: a small team, a nice office, and seasonal inspiration sessions. Then they wonder why nothing changes. Real innovation works like a muscle: it does not get stronger through lectures, but through small, regular exercise.
Why inspiration sessions do not work
Inspiration lifts energy for a day or two, then the team goes back to its schedule. What changes behavior is a practice that repeats inside the real work, is measured, and has an owner.
The weekly practice loop
- Pick a small bet: one change to a process, product, or service
- Decide what you will observe if it works, and within how many days
- Run it with a small group of customers or colleagues
- Meet for thirty minutes: what happened, what did we learn, what do we repeat
How you know the muscle is getting stronger
- The number of small experiments completed each month, not the number of ideas proposed
- The time from idea to first real test
- The share of what we learned that we applied in daily work
A team that runs fifty small bets a year outperforms a team waiting for the one big idea.
Start this week
- Pick one bet you can run within five days
- Write in one sentence what you will measure
- Book thirty minutes at the end of the week for the review
